My first craft event for this year is fast approaching (faster than I would like!) and here is a new design for some hanging hearts I will be selling. It’s a great 1 day festival devoted to the Eel (yes you read that right). later in the year we also celebrate apples but that’s another post..

There will also be new pocket mirrors and I have finally finished all the wall mounted and hanging hares. They look great but I think I have exhausted the subject now!

I’m enjoying lots of new ideas for colour themes, and thinking about these before I decide on the subject matter. Lime and coral are going to be around for a while… I do find neutrals a bit of a yawn!

Lovely, zesty, springy new work. I love magpies and although thought of as a winter bird I wanted to try one with a spring blossom background. Available as a print soon.. Happy Spring (well almost)

I’ve just been reading about a list of species that are almost extinct but deemed too ugly to win the publicity needed to save them. How sad, my favourite on the list was the armour plated, Sunda Pangolin.  These have way more personality than a panda (yawn –  look cute/do nothing) This sketch isn’t the greatest but if anyone wants to write a children’s book about them I would be first in the queue to  illustrate it!

Yesterday was Ely ‘Apple Festival’ –  a WHOLE day dedicated to celebration of the apple (There is a day in the summer dedicated to the eel but that’s another post). There were  some very beautiful owls from a local raptor center there, and I think my work could get quite owl obsessed for a while (a bit late on that trend bandwagon I know) The sleepy white barn owls and the feisty little owls with skinny bodies, tufty ears and huge orange eyes inspired this sketch (done from memory not Google images or crappy phone camera!)

This didn’t turn out as I expected but it’s good to have a pleasant surprise. I’m going to colour this up on the mac and use a the first for a series of postcards and cards. Hope you like it!

I did some quick sketches of coots whilst away last week (at Centre Parcs/Trueman show.) They were loitering outside our villa waiting for cheese cheddars which gave me an opportunity to draw them. They don’t have the art popularity factor of ducks or chickens but I thought they were far more quirky and interesting with their huge blue feet..

PS Fund 101  is back open for voting –  if you haven’t already,  please take the time to vote if you can –  thanks.

Got a bit fixated with painting mushrooms this evening.. just such a nice shape (I know what you are thinking and no I don’t mean in that way), I like the fact that they grow hidden away and might kill you/make a nice dinner/or both.

I’ve also been working on some new designs for ‘I’m not sure what’, maybe button badges? I’ll scan and upload them and you can tell me your favourites. Hmm think the mushrooms might end up as a tea towel design eventually?
